Boat Trip

Hi Eva %26amp; all,

New to tripadvisor %26amp; Langkawi. My wife %26amp; i are heading to Langkawi next week for our 1st year anniversary.

Was reading the thread and saw one of your write up

';To see the real beauty of Langkawi, never miss out to go on a boat trip. For all budgets operators can take you out.';

Can i ask where can get the info of the budgets operators? Read from some website on ';Langkawi Island Hopping Tour';, is this what you are referring to?

Is there any snorkling area at The Andaman? or Pulau Payar Marine Park is the only place?

I will be heading to The Andaman for 2 nights so any website or contacts to refer to? and yet to confirm which hotel to check into at Pantai Cenang on the 3rd night.

Thanks

cheers,

Dan

Boat Trip

Hi Dan,

There are several types of boat trips in Langkawi.

1. Island Hopping Trip - Goes to Pregnant Maiden Island for the fresh water lake %26amp;amp; Wet Rice Island for sea sport and beach activity. This is on a small speed boat. Budget from RM35-RM50 from Awana Porto Malai or Telok Baru. Or from RM180 per person with Bill %26amp;amp; Angelika for a bit of luxury.

2. Pulau Payar Marine Park trip. Will cost from RM130 budget and RM230 for slight better. Yes, this would be the only place for snorkeling.

3. Sunset Cruise. Starts from RM180 onwards for a budget sharing cruise. But Eva%26#39;s would start from RM360. The price represents the quality too.

Mangrove. Price starts from RM50 per person for sharing but a good one which is worthwhile doing would be RM180 per person with a very good guide.

And there are several more that Eva and other knowledgeable ones would be able to recommend.

Happy Planning!

Boat Trip

Dear Dan,

yes, the beauty of this archipelago is to be seen from the perspective of being on boat. Keep in mind that only 4 out of 99 islands are inhabited. But as you only stay for 2 nights, choose carefully not to waste time and money. For snorkeling and diving Langkawi is not the best place in the world. The water of Langkawi is murky due to the algae bloom. And as your time is so short, I would cross Pulau Payar off the list as this will cost you a full day. For a romantic time out as this is your first anniversary, opt for a sunset dinner cruise, a private beach drop or - if this is all too expensive, charter a longboat. The island hopping from Awana Porto Malay is not bad and I recommend it often, but not very romantic if you go with the crowds.

In any case, the western, eastern and southern area of Langkawi 鈥?not the northern! are the most beautiful around Langkawi!

Eva

Thanks Baskie %26amp; Eva, all these info have been of great help to have a sense of how to maximise my time in Langkawi.

So The Andaman is at the north of Langkawi huh? Any activities recommended here?

Understand taht Awana Porto Malai is at the south tip of Langkawi? Meaning to get to Awana from Andaman for the Island Hoping wont be the most convinient? :)

cheers,

Dan

Dear Dan,

yes, The Andaman is at the north western corner of Langkawi. For sailing and boat tours this is not a nice area to my personal opinion. Or at least I should say that we have better and safer areas around here. It can be rough out there is not much to see. The next island belongs to Thailand. It might be nice for fishing trips though.

Datai and Andaman are very proud to have Irshad Mubarak for their nature tour guide.

He is one of the most impressive characters I have met here on the island (just google him and you will know what I mean) If you are interested in nature, he can take you for tours such as the bird watch, the kayaking in the mangroves and much more. Worth time and money!!

Awana Porto Malai is locateted in the south west of Langkawi and to get there from The Andaman will take you about 30 to 40 minutes. The other option is the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club in Kuah (island Tuba)

Was this the answer you where looking for?

Eva

Call Roslan, he is a very friendly cab driver, he could drive you up to the jetty where u can hire a private boat it cost just RM280 for the boat, and its all yours, can take 2 to 8 pple. Its a 2 hours trip and the scenary is really v beauriful. Roslan%26#39;s number is 60 124109472 and say Sally %26amp; Stefan recommended him. He is a very safe driver who wun overcharge. He drove us all around the island for RM100 for 4 hours.

The 2 hr boat ride is called the mangrove tour. It brings you to the fish farm, bat cave and to see eagle feeding.

Actually for a private boat tour with a longboat, I would NOT go to Kilim River. This tour should be done in an organized tour such as Dev%26#39;s adventure. And as this is a hotspot for tourism, I consider it not very romantic although it is truly beautiful.

(And never go for eagle feeding, please !!!)

I would recommend to charter the longboat (if this is your choice)from Awana and go direction Dayang Bunting, maybe include The Lake of the Pregnant Maiden (less busy in the afternoons) and let the boat take you direction south of Dayang Bunting. In any case I would calculate about 4 hours. And again, going to Awana in the afternoon gives you a very good chance to get a great deal! A few very nice beaches and stunning scenery. We go there all the time and I can never get enough. If you are lucky, you can see dolphins.

Hi

As boat trips seem to be the topic, can any help me with trying to sort out a DEEP SEA FISHING trip while in Langkawi ?

I%26#39;ve tried to find out from the DATAI where we are staying but they have said we will need at least 6 people and then it still would be mega bucks !

Any help would be appriciated :-)

Oh, also we%26#39;re booked on the swimming %26amp; kayakking tour throught the hotel, is this good ? Thinking of changing to the Mangrove tour instead ? What you think ?

Thanks Eva, your input has been very helpful in our planning.

Will check into Awana Porto Malai for a night and chatter a boat. So it is still viable to charter a boat in the afternoon? Because hotel check in time is 3pm, so right after that still in time to catch one? Am looking forward for my next week trip.

cheers,

Danny

Dear Essex,

I am not too well informed about the deep sea fishing as we mainly do the normal yacht charter including only trolling or bottom fishing but there was a guy in my office the other day offering this for fairly cheap money. About 600 Ringgit for 3 hours. I have seen only photos of that boat and it seems to be well maintained and could easily take up to 6 people. Maybe you can find some more people in the resort to join. You can contact me and I will give you his details.

But, keep in mind that you will have to go out a couple of miles for deep sea fishing. That indicates that the waves are rougher than inside the archipelago. You should ask him about the best time to go out as the tides and the moon influence your chance of catching something. (Sell the fish to me in case you succeed!)

Dear Dan,

If you go to Awana at about 4 pm you still have time enough and might even see the sunset while still on board. I think that is a good timing. Don鈥檛 forget a picnic basket and some drinks. I even take a light hammock when I go out. Just ask the driver about monkeys!! Send me a pm and I will give you the details of a beach on your way that has relatively clear water and is just a few minutes away from Awana.
