orang utan sanctuary at Rasa Ria

I%26#39;m in the process of booking accomodation at Tanjung Aru and asked them to also arrange for a day trip to the orang utan sanctuary at their sister resort Rasa Ria...

And was told it costs RM75 net for adults and the round trip on the shuttle bus is RM38 net per adult.

I%26#39;ve read quite a few posts on this forum but haven%26#39;t seen anything about having to pay to visit the sanctuary... so I was quite shocked when I was told of the price, and not just that, I think the price is kind of high too. And the price of the shuttle bus sounds like a rip off too!

Are these prices what is normally charged??

You will have to pay to go into the Sanctuary.

The bus probaly is a rip off, but the entry fee helps to support the Orang-utans and rehabilitate them. £15 to get in a small price, and much cheaper than Sepilok!

Hi Monaco05 - yup, there is a charge for the orang utan sanctuary - I last entered it 2 years ago and it was RM65 per adult back then, so a RM10 hike is not that bad.

For what it%26#39;s worth, supposedly the majority of the fee is used to pay for the rehabilitation of the orang utans and the preservation of their natural habitat.

The transfer fee is not terrible. You might want to explore how much a taxi will cost from hotel to hotel. Taxis can take up to 4 people.

You witness the orang utans during feeding time, on a wooden platform from about 30m - 50m away, along with 30 - 40 other people. It could be fun, depends on how much you want to see orang utans in a not-so-wild setting. Bring a zoom lens for you camera.
