Orangutan sanctuary

Is it really worth travelling half way round the world to see the Orangutans in the sanctuary at Rasa Ria or Sepilok? Opinions or personal experiences would be appreciated.

Orangutan sanctuary

Hi

Can I ask why you ask?? There is much, much more to travelling to Malaysia than just the Orang-utans.

We visited them, but it was one day in the holiday.

If that is the only reason for your trip then I think the answer is no. We really enjoyed seeing the Orang Utans but it was the whole experience of Borneo that we loved, the people, the views, the smells of the forest, all the birds, wildlife and plants, this is what makes it worthwhile.

The simple answer is no, but if you include visiting the Orangs with lots of other things to do in Sabah and Kota Kinabalu the answer is yes.

I have been to Sabah 5 times and there are still a lot of things I have not done. To get some idea of what there is in Sabah and Kota Kinabalu have a look at the TA Inside Pages at tripadvisor.com/Travel-g298307-s1/Kota-Kinab…

and the Sabah Tourism Page at sabahtourism.com/sabah-malaysian-borneo/en/

I have used all these companies at various times with no complaints.

Thank you all very much for your comments and info will be looking into a trip. Do any of you have recommendations for hotels or itinery for a 2 week visit, we are in our mid 50s and like walking and snorkelling.

Hi

If you have a look at the Hotels and THINGS TO DO in KK, in the left hand panel it will give you an idea on what there is to do along with reviews from those who have stayed or done the trip, as what might appeal to me for walking and snorkelling might be your idea of a nightmare itinery.

Then you can start to plan what fits around your likes and, more importantly, your budget!!

Have a great one.

PS forgot to say,

or how busy or not you like to be on holiday. If you are just into walking and snorkelling, or do you want to experiance the wildlife as a day trip or stay there, be prepared to travel about or to do it all as day trips etc etc etc. Only you know what you like.

The budget is the biggest consideration!

Have a great time
