1 night stopover in KL - where to stay

Hi

I have 1 night in KL - my flight lands at 7.30 am and I depart the next day at 9am.

Can any one recommend where I should stay for the night, which hotels and whether I should stay in the city or by the airport?

Thanks

Depends on your budget, jet lag and motivation. Also, whether you have been to KL before?

With a 7.30am landing you could be checked in to a KL hotel by 9.30am/10.00am giving you the day in the city. Taxi to/from the airport takes about an hour and costs rm68 for a budget taxi.

For a 9am departure toy will need to get a taxi at about 5.30am - there will be a surcharge at this time of the morning.

If it was me - having been to KL many times, I would go for an airport hotel and just laze the day away by the swimming pool. Save all the hassle of taxies etc.

Hi

sound advice from Esor%26#39;. The Pan Pacific is a great place. You could also get the train into the city and back again (Pan Pacific adjoins KLIA where the train goes from), plus be right by the airport for early the next morning.

Thanks for the advice, the only thing is that I have never been to KL before and I would like to see some of the city and the night markets.

If I stayed at an airport location is it easy/safe to get back in the evening?

thanks guys

Have a look at the Dorsett Regency.

They have a great special at the moment that only lasts this weekend because of a local MATTA Travel fair. Cheap bookings available at their website for travel to end July including b/fast, welcome drink and muffin and late check out. I have booked for June but have never stayed there.

All the best

HI

The only thing you don%26#39;t say, is if it is KUL KLIA or KUL LCCT you will be arriving into (Think LHR T1 and LHR T5 for distance and are not connected to each other)

It is easy to get to / from the city. The KLIA Express is easy, safe and reasonably priced. It will take you to KL Sentral, then monorail or train for a couple of ringitt to some of the sights

Petronas Towers/ Suria KLCC mall / Kuala Lumpur City Centre park - you can only get up to the sky bridge on the 41st/42nd floor of the Petronas Towers and need to get there early (0800) to get tickets - you queue up and tours are issued by time on a first come first served basis. The skybridge is closed on Monday. The park has some great views of the towers, as does the Skybar at Traders hotel if you fancy a quick drink day or night. The view are not that brill%26#39;, but it is a been there done it tick. KL Menara has far better views of the city (and the Petronas Towers) as you are at 94m. Short walk from Bukit Nanas monorail station, or train to KLCC.

Menara [KL] Tower 94m– at the top of Bukit Nanas (Pineapple Hill), KL Menara Tower and the Bukit Nanas Park. The tower gives fantastic panoramic views all over KL. The rainforest reserve under the tower is open for the public to walk around some of the original rainforest in KL [since 1906] or take part in activities. Seri Angkasa Revolving Restaurant gives a lovely view of the city. Short walk from Bukit Nanas monorail station.

Bukit Bintang – A great place for shopping and eating. Sungai Wang/BB Plaza [500 shops and a real Malaysian treat of all sorts of bargains hidden away], KL Plaza, Times Square [which also has a theme park], Pavillion [Mid to top end shops and also the best food court which is reasonably priced, very good mix of restaurants plus a supermarket], Lot 10 [also has a supermarket], Starhill Gallery [very top end but some very nice reasonably priced restaurants], Plaza Low Yat [IT mall], YTL Plaza, BB Park, Imbi Plaza for shopping, plus there are many open fronted shops which offer some great bargains and are identical to those in Chinatown and then there is Jalan Alor is a great place for street food and many restaurants along Bukit Bintang. Ain Arabia or Arab Street is just around the corner in Jalan Berangan, the shopping haven and food and culture of the Arabs in Malaysia. No end to the variety at Bukit Bintang. Bukit Bintang monorail station.

Central Market [architectural heritage also doubles as an air-conditioned Malaysian handicrafts and souvenirs market and restaurants] / Independence or Merdeka Square / Sultan Abdul building / Royal Selangor Club / St. Mary%26#39;s Cathedral / Kuala Lumpur Railway Station - Colonial heritage (walking distance to Chinatown)

Petaling Street Market is in Chinatown. You can walk to Chinatown/Petaling Street from Merdeka station. Chinatown is a great place for the markets and food. It does get VERY crowded at night so you could try to visit in the afternoon, and take in Sri Mahamariamman Temple plus other temples / UDA Ocean traditional Chinese shopping mall junction between Jalan Sultan and Jalan Dato H S Lee. Plenty of nice food. [station Pasa Ser on the LRT line or Merkeda / Maharajalela on the Monorail, plus 5 mins walk from both]. You will need to bargain hard and the bargains are not what they were.

With only 1 night, even if you took advantage of the Dorsett bargain you will still need to be back at KLIA / LCCT for 6-7am the next morning, leaving the Dorsett at 5am. So won%26#39;t really be great value to you.

You could ask the Pan Pacific to store you bags, head off to the city on the train, then come back later, enjoy the pool, bar and restaurant at the hotel, then have a decent nights sleep!

Have a great one.

Thanks for such great replies and ideas on what to do! i will hve a think
