Hi

The resorts with the nicest beaches are on the north of the island and are quite remote. However, you will get the good food/wine, nice pool and big rooms in these.

You will never get a clear sea anywhere around the island; the water is not dirty it%26#39;s just not sparkling blue, tends to be more of a green colour.

You do not say how much you want to spend for your hotel. That would give some idea of what hotels to recommend to you.

Have you looked at Pelangi where you friends stayed? That could be an option for you. Alternatively look at Casa del Mar which is in the same vicinity. This is a small boutique type hotel, which tends to be more for couples and honeymooners rather than families. Both of these hotels are within walking distance of lots of restaurants.

HI

Please do not come expecting Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

1. nice fluffy sand with a clear sea to swim in - Langkawi has fine white coral sand and a sea that is clear (not crystal blue) and you can swim in it, but it might have jelly fish and / or sea lice.

2. a nice hotel with big rooms separate living are would be nice - most 5* hotels in Langkawi will have suites.

3. nice big pool - most of the 5* hotels in Lanagawki will have nice big pools. Not sure what you define as big, but because most clients chose to swim in the pool they tend to make them attractive.

4. good food (and wine) - food yes, Malaysia has great food. Although you will experiance the better food else where in Malaysia [Kuala Lumpur or Penang], Langkawi has some great and small excellent restaurants outside the hotels as well as in the hotel. Wine is a different matter - good wine yes, but very very expensive - and a bottle you can buy for 4.99 at home will cost 49.99!

5. entertainment - most 5* hotels in Langkawi will have some form of entertainment, but it will be low key, especially if compared to that offered in the Caribbean.

6. be nice to walk to on an evening - limited choice in Langakwi other than on Pentai Cenang. Most other hotels in Langakawi will requrie a taxi.

7. does this place exist - not in Langkawi or even in Malaysia.

If you want wildlife then look at other areas of Malaysia - Kota Kinabalu / Sabah or Kuching in Sarawak or Penang for the food, shopping etc.

Hope that helps a little.

hi steady

we usually spend about 4.500, but thats all inclusive and for 21 nights

will be looking to stay for 18 nights or roundabout that

cheers

I was thinking the same as Lesley regarding the Pelangi, or look at the Casa del Mar - ok not Malaysian but the service standards are great and the rooms are wonderful, becuase it is a smaller boutique hotel there tend to be no children.

Whilst I know that Lesley loves Langkawi, I personaly would find it boring for 18-21 days.

Dear Junie,

as you stay for 21 nights you might consider to go for two or three days to Penang. And for your stay here in Langkawi check out if you could split your stay between Pelangi (or Casa del Mar ) in Pantai Cenang and the Berjaya (to see more wildlife).

Hi Junie,

If you find such a place as you are asking for, please let us know as we would all like a slice of the paridise you describe.

Gerry

hi everyone

i am going to keep looking anyway

junie

I would say what you are asking for might be met more by The Maldives than Langkawi, especially ';nice fluffy sand with a clear sea to swim in';, you%26#39;ll get that in spades, plus more adult oriented results, but you wont get ';somewhere to walk to on an evening'; in The Maldives.

In Malasia you could check out Redang which I understand (I havent been there yet) has much clearer seas than Langkawi *at the right time of year*.

Having stayed in Dom Rep last year and Langkawi 4 times, there is no comparison.

You can go out in the evenings without having to watch your belongings or get harrassed.

You can walk around without bumping into armed guards every 50 metres.

The mozzies only come out at night

you can lye on the beach without being attacked by sea fleas.

you don%26#39;t get continually hassled by hawkers.

OK, you may not get the crystal clear waters you are after, but the locals are so friendly and itis very inexpesive to eat out.
