Finding a tour operator

Hi,

I am really struggling to find a tour operator and would appreciate any help.

1) I want to see wild Orang Utans (if possible, after all, they%26#39;re wild!) - not a glorified zoo

2) I want to climb Kota Kinbula

3) I would rather not travel with a large group or stay in hostels - I am happy to pay the extra that this will result in

Any ideas?

Finding a tour operator

Hi erica5877 - you can try sabahtourism.com to find yourself an agent - Exotic Borneo, Mt. Kinabalu adventurous travel, etc. comes to mind.

1) Get a Malaysia Airlines early morning flight to Sandakan and go to Sepilok for the orang utans. You can arrange a city tour and visit the temple on the hill and the English tea-house for kicks. Fly back at 5pm, or stay over-night on Turtle Island and come back the next morning - most agents have these tours.

2) Climb Mount Kinabalu (Kota Kinabalu is the city :) Arrange your accommodation at Laban Rata before you do anything else. Transport to the park are plentiful and varied - from minibus, to taxi, to tour operator transfer.

3) Unless you arrange on an organised package tour, large groups are easy to avoid - hostels there are aplenty, but so is medium range hotel accommodation.

Search the TripAdvisor forums for details on what I said above.

Finding a tour operator

Going to Kinabatangan river for a day or two gives you a chance to see orang utan%26#39;s in the wild, but there are few left, so this depends on luck. Sepilok is a sure bet, but is a sanctuary, so it%26#39;s not ';in the wild'; per se.

Presuming you mean mt Kinabalu, book early, and book through sutera sanctuary lodges, who controls all accommodation on the mountain. Limited space, so the earlier, the better.

Many choices of hotels in and around KK, depending on buget and preferred location.
