Help! need advice on itinerary

Hi everyone

Im hoping someone can give me advice on where to go adn what to do.

We are only in Borneo, flying into Kuching for 3 nights/2 full days. We are planning on staying in Kuching for one night (flight time constraints)and then we would like to go off and explore jungle/rain forest whatever is nearest

Originally, we wanted to go to the Hilton Batang however I dont think we have enough time to do this (if anyone thinks we do please share!) again due to flight times for moving on

Second option was the Village hotel just outside of Kuching but I cant seem to work out what it is near or what there is to do around it.

I know we want to see a bit of nature and the culture of the area so I am at a bit of a loss where we should be looking to stay for such a short time

Any advice is greatfully received!

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply!

The easy and obvious answer is Bako National Park.

If you leave your hotel early morning (7.30am to get the 8am bus No6 from the Open Market by Electra House) you can be in the park by late morning.

Spend your 2 days in the park - leave late afternoon (last bus back to Kuching is at 5pm - so leave the park by pre arranged boat at 4pm) on the second day and get back to Kuching for your 3rd night.

We recently stayed 6 nights in the Kuching area - 3 nights in Kuching, 1 Bako and 2 at the Village House on the Santubong peninsula. We loved the Village House and it was a great place to kick back and relax at the end of our two weeks in Borneo. But I%26#39;m not certain it would fit with what you are looking for. We wanted something slow and relaxing and we weren%26#39;t looking to see a lot since we were wrapping up our trip. We did a walk along the beach to the village. Another option was to go to the Sarawak Cultural Village but decided to just relax and swim in the pool. They are wonderful hosts and the rooms are gorgeous. Damai Resort is near by and you can hike around the area. Kuching is about 45 minutes. There is a shuttle that runs about every 2 hours or you can take a taxi if you want to go into Kuching. The area is more of a beach small village than jungle.

Personally with your short time, I would recommend staying in Kuching and doing day trips. Kuching is a beautiful city. We loved the walks along the waterfront, Chinatown and the colonial architecture. The food is great also. For day trips, you can go to Semmeggoh and the Sarawak Village.

If you are adventurous, definitely go to Bako and stay a night. It is probably the closest wild jungle experience to Kuching. The accommodations are very basic and nothing compared to the two hotels you mention but you will get to experience the jungle. It is great to see the monkeys and wildlife. The mangrove swamp and beach is beautiful.
