Hotel Help Needed

Hi

I%26#39;m trying to book a holiday to Lankawi for 10 Nights in April/May period but I%26#39;m having a real problem working out of the following two to choose from:

The Andaman 1st - 11th April in a deluxe room, OR

Tanjung Rhu 2nd - 12th May in a Damai room.

The price for two people is about the same at both places, normally I would have said the Tanjung Rhu but I%26#39;m told the weather is better in April compared to May, but other places say May is better than April I have no idea who is right there is so much conflicting information about the weather.

I鈥檓 not too fussed about short sharp rain showers but my girlfriend really wants to avoid long grey overcast periods. I%26#39;ve tried searching through previous posts but it鈥檚 all starting to get to blur and I want to have this booked by the end of day so would appreciate any help or thoughts you have.

Thanks

Hi Dilbert,

The tell you the truth, you can miss rain on both of the months. So, my advice would be, just choose The Andaman 1st - 11th April and have less rain %26amp; more sunshine.

Happy Planning!

Hotel Help Needed

Thanks for the advice, any particular reason you would choose the Andaman, or is it just because of the better timing?

Dear Dilbert,

if rain is your concern here is my version:

April is the period where the rainy season starts but very moderate. Although both resorts are in the northern coastline, only a few miles away from each other, the weather can be very, very different! The Andaman is located in the rainforest on the western corner, that indicates more rain. But please note, most likely that is not every day at that time of the year and comes in short and heavy downpours. It is really nice, the air afterwards is so refreshing, the mist coming up the mountains just magic.

The T. Thu is located on the north east and is much dryer. Far less rain. But: did you notice that the T. Rhu will get refurbished; they will most likely start around April.

My own personal choice would be The Andaman, but that doesn%26#39;t mean anything.

Thanks for all the info, I did hear about the refurb and asked the Kuoni agent about it but she seemed to think that it was only a minor cosmetic refurb that wouldn%26#39;t be very disruptive but then as an agent she would be likely to downplay the refurb so am not sure what to think.

Also because of work looks like we have to go in May so am now thinking about the Westin as well! All we want is a chilled out place, nice beech and good food based on that is Andaman the one to go for over the Westin?

Sorry for all the question but your help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Nice Beach - Andaman

Good Food - Andaman

Easy access to everywhere - Westin

Hi there. Being British, I think we all get obsessed with the weather abroad although we need to keep in mind that overcast skies and rain patterns are completely different in Asia to here. I would just like to come back with a good tan personally!

I too had the problem with whether to go in April or May, a major factor in researching in weather patterns in Malaysia is considering the precipitation and therefore I chose April. I am staying 6 nights in the Pelangi to take advantage of the close restaurants and activities nearby and then we will be staying at the Andaman for the final 5 nights to enjoy the rainforest experience. It took me absolutely ages to settle on the hotels. I came across the Westin but the beach put me off, there were a lot of boats and I believe the water is more dirty (please correct me if i am wrong). Therefore, I think the Westin is more for a business traveller for shorter stays. I think you should definately stay in the Andaman if travelling in April. I was led to believe that the refurb project at the Tanjang Rhu was slightly more extensive than the travel agent has led you to believe, otherwise I would have suggested you stay at the Tanjang Rhu!

Thanks for all the advice and information, it makes so much difference talking to people who live out there/have been out there, the Kuoni agent eventually conceded that the work may be more than initially suggested! The new choices we have been given are;

Andaman 1st May - 11th May 鈥?Deluxe Room Inc Breakfast %26amp; Flights 拢2400

Tanjung Rhu 30th March 鈥?10th April 鈥?Damai Room Inc Breakfast %26amp; Flights 拢3300

The price difference is a far bit but I鈥檓 happy to pay the extra for chance of less rain and from reading the reviews the TR seems to have nicer restaurants and a more chilled out environment both of which are important to us, is that the general view or are they both pretty similar? Hopefully we鈥檒l be booking this tomorrow but if anyone has any comments or suggestions they would be most welcome.

Again sorry for all the questions but your help has made the planning process a whole lot easier and less stressful so thank you all.

Dear Dilbert,

you picked two remote hotels - keep that in mind. Whenever you want to go out, you will have to add at least 50 Ringit to your daily bill. I personally like Emma%26#39;s decision a lot as she first goes to Pelangi to have a bit more options for restaurants in walking distance and finishes the holiday at the Andaman.

But re the Tanjung Rhu: normally here in Malaysia things are not happening very fast. You have a good chance that the refurbishment has not yet started when you will come. But what your agent told you is not true: it will be noisy and dirty for the time they will work on it.
