i will be in langkawi from 25th till 31st march and will probably stay in meritus pelangi hotel or similar.
i am trying to figure out about the distances between beaches in langkawi, especially:
- from cenang to datai
- from cenang to tanjung rhu
how many km from cenang to datai or tanjung?
do you recommend to rent a motorbike or a car?
are the street in a good conditions?

The roads in Langkawi are excellent and there is not a lot of traffic.
From Cenang to the Datai it will take around 30 mins by car and probably 40 mins from Cenang to Tanjung Rhu.
You do realise that if you are not staying at the Datai you will not be able to use the beach there, nor will you be able to use the ';private'; hotel part of the beach at Tanjung Rhu.

i heard that you can go in any beach in langkawi as the hotel are not ';owner'; of the whole beaches...

You are correct, none of the beaches on Langkawi are ';private'; but having said that, to access many of the beaches you have to go through the hotels. The Datai, being a 5* hotel, do not let just anyone have access to the hotel and their security would probably ask you to leave.
There is a ';public'; area at the beach by the Tanjung Rhu hotel. You can use that but you would not have access to the ';private'; area by the actual hotel nor be able to use the pool there.

well.. ill stay in langkawi only 5 full days so i think 2-3 days in cenang beach area, 1 day visiting something else than a beach.. and another day in tanjung rhu... will be enough.

Well do not forget to go on the cable car up Mat Cincang. Unforgettable experience (unless you are afraid of heights)!! The views from the top of the mountain are stunning and if you have time, go on one of the mangrove tours.
