Suitcase or Backpack? Hiking Boots? KL, Sabah, Langkawi.

We%26#39;re heading to Malaysia for the first time in June and I can%26#39;t decide whether we should take backpacks or suitcases, and also whether we will need hiking boots...I%26#39;m guessing that a backpack is better for Sabah but suitcase would be better for the rest?!

We already have both so cost isn%26#39;t a consideration, but comfort and least hassle certainly are ;-)

Our itinary is:-

- 2 nights KL (Traders Hotel)

- 4 nights Sabah (1 night Sabah Hotel, 2 nights Kinabantangan River Lodge, 1 night Forest Edge Sepilok)

- 7 nights Langkawi (Andaman)

Any advice from others who have been to these places would be great (we%26#39;re a couple in our 20%26#39;s/30%26#39;s).

Thanks!

Hi

Travelling light will be the key not what you are travelling with.

You are staying in modern accomodation where you can unpack your suitcases. Even at Kinabantangan River Lodge and Forest Edge Sepilok having a suitcase or a back pack will not make a jot of difference.

Sensible footwear is the key, unless you are planning to go remote hiking and camping, in which case take your backpacks and boots.

Have fun.

As Mitch says, with a multi stop holiday, travel light. You can buy anything you are short of.

What we do when doing a %26#39;mix and match%26#39; trip to Malaysia is to pack a rucksack inside a suit case.

You have not given your flight routing - maybe, it is possible to leave a suit case in KL or at the airport and just take the rucksack for the 4 day trip to Sabah? This is what we do.

Walking boots are not really necesary - BUT, good walking trainers/shoes are. As are good quality sandles.

Thanks for the replies. Packing light is easier said than done!!!

We%26#39;re flying Air Asia from KL to Sandakan, and then on our return from Sandakan to KL to get a conection to Langkawi. Is it possible to leave luggage at the Air Asia terminal in KL so we could pick it up 4 days later on our way to Langawi?

There is a left lugage facility in the LCCT terminal used by Airasia.
