Tipping in Penang

Is tipping expected in Penang for taxis, porters, waiters etc but how much is the norm?

Would you tip at a Hawkers market?

Tipping in Penang

Tipping is not the culture in Malaysia with one small exception, bellboys/porters at the hotels.

It is not the norm to tip taxis (they are already trying to rip you off by not using meters), waiters (service charge normally included in your restaurant bill) and definitely not the hawkers (who are trying to haggle a good price out of you anyway)...

If somebody goes entirely out of their way to give you good service, maybe you might want to consider tipping, but most locals would tell you that it is not expected nor necessary to do so.

I concur that...tipping is not necessary..

But,if you feels like it..it will not be frowned upon...

Hi RocketMelbourne

Malaysia a non tipping country.

No harm tipping to make them happy, any amount welcome.

Cheers
