Genting Highlands

Hi we are a family of 4 coming to Kuala Lumpur middle of April for 10 days we have already booked our accommodation for the 10 days at June%26#39;s Apartments Sentul West which we are very happy with, but after a lot of searching on the net have decided to take a day trip to Genting Highlands on Mon 20 (Is this a good day)and maybe staying 1 night Theme Park Hotel, reason I picked this hotel is thier family rooms they look the largest, Maxis looks great but not prepared to spend that much.

My plan is to leave early take the cable car up my fear allowing (How long does it take, I know it is roughly 3.5km) I know the rest of my family would love this especially the girls, but I hate hieghts is it really scary?, spending the day there shopping, theme parks, stay the night and leave next morning taking the cable car back. Ant suggestions feedback greatly appreciated. I have pretty much planned my whole holiday via this forum so really value informed information.

Thanks in advance

Jeanette

Genting Highlands

The cable car ride can be scary for someone afraid of heights, as the journey includes a series of ups and downs depending on the terrain rather than a straight path up. So each time the cable car crosses a tower on a hill, it goes down a bit and gives you a slight roller coaster feel.

Other than that your plan seems ok.

Genting Highlands

Jeanette,

Going to genting on Monday is a good choice, you can avoid the usually huge weekend crowd. Although am not so sure if April is within the school break.

Anyways..am sure you will have tons of fun..Genting is a great place for family...

ps-you can even try your luck at the casino ...

Hi,

According to Genting Highland%26#39;s accommodation seasonal chart, Apr 20th is a non-peak day.

Thought you might want to check out the promotion and package deals, as well as info on Genting Highlands through their official web site. Here%26#39;s the link:

Hi Jeanette,

The day we went to Genting we froze it was so cold and cloudy and rainy that we saw nothing.

The cable car ride takes I guess from memory about 20-25 min. It is a little scary but I did it so you should be able to.

It is a great experience.

Hi Jeanette,

We also did Genting Highlands with our two boys late last year.

The cable car ride is fablous! You should really not miss it. On the day we went the whole mountain top was covered in cloud - so half way up in the cable car we went into a total white out. It was really cold up there - the cloud was right through the building. We were totally unprepared and had to all buy jackets.

The ride in the cable car was the highlight and the indoor theme park is lots of fun - very colourful. The outdoor theme park is old and does not compare any way with our theme parks here in Aus. We thought the day trip was worth it, but our boys were ready to leave by about 2pm (and they are theme park nuts).

One thing to think about - is it really worth staying there for the night? Some of the hotels get really, really bad reviews on TA. I%26#39;d really question if it is worth packing up and moving there for one night. As mentioned - our boys had had enough by mid afternoon.

You can buy a %26#39;Go Genting%26#39; ticket from KL Sentral which includes a Bus trip from Sentral to the cable car, the cable car trip and unlimited ride ticket. (return) It is really good value and gives you a great day out option. There is a Genting Highland booth at KL Sentral where you can pre-buy the tickets. You need to do this a couple of days ahead to get seats on the bus.

There is more info in my KL trip report - if you click on my profile you%26#39;ll see the report around mid October. Just scroll back.

Caroline.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have decided can%26#39;t let the rest of the family miss out on proberly the best part e.g cable car, so we have compromised and we will do it one way proberly going to Genting. I have done the one at Singapore to Sentosa %26amp; also the one at Hong Kong Ocean Park, I survived both mind you I did have my eyes closed the whole time and no-one was allowed to speak to me especially saying MUM LOOK AT THAT haha

Again thanks everyone for your help this site certainly helps you plan a more informed holiday

Cheers Jeanette
