HI

What ever you pack in your suitcase / backpack, take it all out and then only put half of it back in. We all travel with too much.

Remember it will be hot and humid, and even the evenings are never cold - except some malls and restaurants when they turn the air-con tooooo cold.

Based this on what I would pack:

Couple of pair of ¾ pants or shorts, 4 t-shirts or tops, Smartish skirt / pants and top that can mix with the others but can dress up if needed, 2 pairs of swimmers (bikini/costume etc), a sarong, 3-4 pairs of undies, 2-3 pairs of socks, 1 pair of sensible shoes or good trainers (usually fly in mine), 1 pair of thongs / flip flops, sunglasses, sun hat, 1 pair of sandals or smart shoes. No makeup, just a lipstick. Anti-bug plug, really good insect repellant, good high factor suncreame as it can be expensive in Malaysia, aftersun / moistureiser, few tum, headache or simple firstaid remedies, any required medication, a good hair conditioner, don%26#39;t worry about other hair products / curling tongs / straigtheners as your hair will do what it wants in the heat / humidity, a good anti-perspirant, toothbrush and toothpaste. Dependant on which hotels we had booked would not worry about shower gel, shampoo etc as many rooms will include toiletries - same applies for beach / pool towels.

Plus, its also great fun to shop when you get there!!

Have fun.

dazed_dizzy, the advice from travelling mitch is excellent. Having lived in the tropics, I agree that the only make up worth taking is lipstick as the anything else just slides off, lol. If you want to look ok when going out for dinner - don%26#39;t wear mascara, that%26#39;s likely to run too!! I always my eyelashes tinted just before I go away and then you feel like you%26#39;re wearing mascara without the possible %26#39;panda eyes%26#39;!

Did travellingmitch mention sunscreen? That%26#39;s a must, especially if you have fair skin.

I have taken not of the above post to assist with my own packing which I will have to start soon! Good luck with keeping to the bare minimum :-)

Hi Dazed_dizzy - flip flops will probably be your mainstay as you can wear this almost anywhere any for any reason - certainly everywhere in KK and on Lankayan Island, Sepilok and Kapalai.

Shoes for walking in the muddy jungle you%26#39;ll need to consider only if you%26#39;re actually going to be walking in the muddy jungle or guano filled caves (Mulu, BRL, Tabin).

Clothes - dress for summer and humidity. Light fabrics that breathe do the trick, cotton and linen, but shirts and pants can be long or short sleeve.

Only other necessities are sunblock, a hat and sunshades.

Smart clothes? For nicer restaurants you can still go casual, but swap short sleeves for long and men would have to wear a closed shoe.

As for the make-up advise (which as a man I will not attempt to dish out) - here in KK the ladies spare no effort when it comes to make-up, and I%26#39;m yet to see any of it slide off ;)

Oh yes, when packing sunscreen, make sure you pack a sunblock for your lips. Not long back from a fishing trip %26amp; didn%26#39;t take any, boy did I pay for it!! Went out %26amp; bought some %26#39;after the horse had bolted%26#39; :-0. It%26#39;s now ready and waiting for me to pack for this trip. You will find it especially important if taking any boat trips or spending time by the water. :-)
