Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary

Hi just finished a trip to Borneo and stopped off in KL for a couple of days to visit the Kuala Gandah elephant sanctuary. What an experience, absolutely brilliant. Negotiated a taxi from KL for the day. 250 RM with a nice guy called Rom. set off 9.30 took about 2 hours, stopped at deer park close to elephant sanctuary, got up close and personal with small deer, and sun bears, who licked off condensed milk from my hand (not sure how nutritionally beneficial that was to them but they seemed to love it) they are the most gorgeous creatures, so soft and gentle playful natures.

We then went on to the elephant sanctuary, where we watched a video on the work they are doing relocating rogue elephants back to new areas after their environment has been encroached upon by plantations.

We were then introduced to the elephants and given thier history before feeding them, (I can%26#39;t think of anything that compares to putting a piece of fruit inside the mouth of an elephant)...and then being taken aloft into the river and dunked by a huge elephant under the water. Then we washed and splashed about with two very playful baby elephants, who delighted in squirting water from thier trunks at us.

All in all a really great day out, and happy to give a donation to the sanctuary for the wonderful experience and to enable them to continue thier great work.

The sanctuary is a little out of the way... but if you have a spare day ... take a trip out there, you wont be disapointed.

Heather.

Thanks for that Heather, might be worth us looking into it! Did you get contact details Rom, your driver?

Where did you stay in KL?

Hi Heather,

Great to hear you enjoyed the elephants.

Could you confirm that the video starts at 1pm and the feeding then bathing starts at 2pm until about 4pm.

On a tight schedule!

Thanks Donna

We were also at the Elephant Sanctuary recently and had a wonderful day also. We went there with Razali, ';The Elephant Man'; and would recommend it. We had the whole morning with the baby elephants all to ourselves. We were able to see and do so much more because we were with Razali and after all the tourists left we had more alone time with the elephants. We got to see and learn so much more about the park and what it does than any normal tourist would. It was 400MR for the day including a great lunch. It is a whole day thing but is worth it if you have the time.
