Visit to Borneo

We are planning a family reunion in Borneo in April 2010 for 8 adults and 7 children (aged between 1-9 years).

Accomodation required: - four well run, clean chalets adjacent to a child friendly / safe beach in a scenic environment; surrounded by good places to eat.

Interests: - the great apes, national parks, nature reserves and wind surfing (for one individual).

Can anyone out there recommend somewhere that meets these requirements?

Thank you

HI

What part of Borneo?? Nearly like saying a reunion in Western Australia - a lot of land and places to go at! Borneo is a large island, two thirds of the island are part of Indonesia, one third is Malayisan, and then there is the tiny country of Brunei. The Malaysain part is split into Sabah (north east from Brunei) and Sarawak (the north portion west of Brunei). Sabah / Kota Kinabalu / Sandakan is more prepared for the tourist trade, Sarawak is still developing.

So we all need to know . . . . .

Where are you flying in to??

How long are you staying for?

What is your budget??

Are you prepared to compromise on your requirements if all can not be ticked (which I doubt they all will be ticked), if so what are the most important requirements?

What do you want to do when you get there, ie trips linked to your interests, as this will impact on the suggestions of places to stay locations.

You could also look at sabahtourism.com/sabah-malaysian-borneo/… which has some great suggestions so you can refine you questions a little. This is only for Sabah, you may wish to consider the other part of Malaysian Borneo, Sarawak / Kuching.

Have fun.

Thanks- Yes we were aware we were asking a lot! Our priority consideration was accomodation- WHICH place Sabah or Sarawak OR perhaps somewhere unknown to us.... would meet our needs of a beach with chalet/bungalow or villas for 4 families. One family from Africa, another from UK and one from WA while the grandparents are grey nomads! Self catering helps with meeting the budgets of all. Meeting the needs of 3 generations seems easier said than done. We have read books and spoken to TA but each seems to push a particular niche and we haven%26#39;t found something right up our street as yet. Haven%26#39;t hear or read anything about Sandakan to date.

We plan on 7-10 days depending on cost. Have not considered flights until we know where we want to stay hence trying to plan over a year in advance. As soon as we all settle on the right Accom we will book the flights to that spot.

Hence the message asking for help?

Thank You
