Hotels - it%26#39;s a personal choice. For me, I would stay in Kuching - it%26#39;s a great city.

If you do stay out at Damai it will cost a packet to get to Bako NP. Same is true of the OU%26#39;s - the tourist mini van leaves from outside the Tourist Info Center (8am is the first bus).

Damai is 45 minutes from Kuching.

To get to Bako from Kuching, just go to the Open Air Market for the 9am bus to Bako Bazaar (bus no 6 - across the market from Electra house). You register in Bako Bazaar and then get a boat out to the park. The children will love the adventure - try and stay for 2 or 3 nights.

PM for more detail.

we stayed at the Hilton in Kuching and Damai Beach Resort. Hilton is a lovely hotel, however we did not get an early morning wakeup call.we nearly missed our excursion to the batang ai.. we had no breakfast or shower that day..Awful!! however is close to all amenities. damai beach is ok we had like a bungalow there which was great.. not much room around the pool(loungers).not much choice of food either.. we went on excursion to baco park from damai beach, don%26#39;t remember it being a long journey, minibus and then boat. but well worthwhile, seeing proboscis monkies, we climbed a very steep hill to see a caniverous plant, that was really hard.. make sure you have good shoes on as the walk through can be slippery! damai beach had an inhouse office where you could book excursions. we went to rehab. centre on the way to the Hilton Batang Ai, from Hilton in kuching, think it was a long way.. but don%26#39;t think Baco park was. Damai Beach is about 45 minutes ride from the Hilton in Kuching.there is was a minibus from damai Beach into the local market.. hope this is a little help to you.

sorry wrong spelling(BAKO) park. cannot remember the cost of excursion but know it was not cheap!!!

My husband has just told me that we went to:Semenggoh wild life centre and not the orangutan rehab centre soory about that..

sunsoaker1,

hilton is a safe bet. if you want to safe money to spent on other items, stay at the tune hotel which is just opposite. it%26#39;s so cheap, your two teens can have their own individual rooms! look at my review and flickr photos posted here:

loveelephants,

Bako is amazing isn%26#39;t it! However, we forgot sunblock and turned a funny red. Friend got it worst of us, he%26#39;s skin%26#39;s peeling now! Still it was worth the trek.

Semenggoh Org Utan Rehad Ctr is correct. The other is named Matang Wildlife Ctr.

hi all, thanks for all your replys, have decided to stay in city as it would be easier to do trips, will definatly check out tune hotel, just cant wait to go now!!

mysarawak, can%26#39;t wait to read your reviews about Sabah.. we stayed at the Tanjung Aru which was fabulous, but very expensive. After KL. Kuching, and Blue Lagoon,we only made it to the National Park.. Poring Hot Springs.. enjoyed the canopy walk.. we went to the museum and the Rasa Ria hotel to see the orangutans, and a local village where the government cannot get them to move from there.. we are hoping to visit friends in Australia next year. My husband wants to revisit Sabah on the way back to see more there.. looking for a cheaper hotel to stay in Sabah though.. please tell where you stayed. as the Rasa Ria and Tanjung Aru are too expensive, ps. we were shown just two plants in Bako Park, by our guide. You were lucky to see more.. must tell.
