What would you do with 4 hours in KL?

Hi there,

We have just found out that our Air Asia flight from KL to Phuket has been put back 5 hours. We now have 8 hours in KL. So, allowing for 2 hours travelling into the centre and 2 hours checkin, we have 4 hours spare. Any suggestions of something to do in this time?

Cheers :)

Hi

The main thing would be what interests you and what time of day you will be in KL? This could impact on what you do, as some things do not open until 10am or close at 10pm.

You will need to get a taxi (70-90myr each way) or the Skybus to KL Sentral and then get a cab or the monorail / train to the sights (9myr per person per journey for the skybus but takes a good hour).

I think I would put my suitcases into left luggage and then hop in a taxi as it is quicker (40mins on average) . . . . . .

You could go to KLCC and see the iconic Petronas Towers, have a bite to eat and do some shopping in Suria KLCC Mall.

Or you could aim for KL Menara Tower, and get a birds eye view of the city - you do not need to prebook these, you can just turn up on the day. You could also have a walk around the rainforest at the base of the tower

Of you could head to Lake Gardens / Orchid %26amp; Hibiscus Gardens / Bird-Butterfly / Deer parks / Carcosa Seri Negara 鈥?colonial hotel 鈥?high tea / Museum of Islamic Arts / National Museum / Masjid Negara [National Mosque]

Or you could visit Central Market [architectural heritage also doubles as an air-conditioned Malaysian handicrafts and souvenirs market and restaurants] / Independence or Merdeka Square / Sultan Abdul building / Royal Selangor Club / St. Mary%26#39;s Cathedral / Kuala Lumpur Railway Station - Colonial heritage and wander to Chinatown / Petaling Street / street and night markets / street food / Sri Mahamariamman Temple plus other temples / UDA Ocean traditional Chinese shopping mall junction between Jalan Sultan and Jalan Dato H S Lee. (walking distance to Central Market)

Or there is always Bukit Bintang with its multitude of malls, from mega top end to traditional asian.

Have fun.

As you are with Air Asia, your flights will be via the Low Cost Terminal (LCCT) - about 15 minutes or so from the main KLIA terminal. So that makes it harder for a train into KL - so I agree that a taxi is probably best. We had a similar time to kill during our first trip to KL. We went to the KLCC and Suria shopping centre (where the twin towers are). There%26#39;s a big open park, enormous shopping centre, oil museum in the top floor - and you will feel like you are in KL. We loved KL so much we have been back lots of times since. As a difference, you could catch the express train back from the city to KLIA and then cab or bus to LCCT. Allow an hour - as the train takes around 30 mins.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. We arrive in KL at 12.30pm, so by the time we head out it will possibly be 1.30pm. Our plane then leaves at 8.25pm, so I guess we have to be back at the airport at 6.25pm. As this will be peak traffic?? will the travelling time be greatly increased?

Thanks again :)

Hi

Depending on which part of the city that you leave from, albut if you planned to leave at just after 5pm if you are in the city centre, so you will you arrive at LCCT in good time. Once you get out of the centre (which is pretty compact) the motor / free way system is very good from the city the airport. Don%26#39;t forget to tell your driver you are going to LCCT and not KLIA at KUL.

Have fun!

Things you have to consider when leaving from the city to the airport:

- weather. If its raining heavily; you should leave early before the flashfloods come in.

- after work / prayers traffic. Government offices staff leave at 4:30pm, the rest of the KL people working leaves at 5 - 6pm. Fridays are usually more congested after afternoon prayers.

- political demonstration. A relative was stuck along lebuhraya Mahameru for 3 hours the other day because some crazy people keep marching up and down the Istana negara politicking about whether or not to teach Science and Mathematics in English or Bahasa. These people are harmless and have got nothing else better to do; but they can cause massive traffic congestions and excessive waste of tear gas.

Please leave early enough and anticipate for many unexpected incidents. Have fun in KL!!

I didnt know the civil service still clock off before 4.30pm ....

Thanks again guys. Now here is the tricky part. There are 31 of us travelling. So we are all making our own way to a point, we have decided on Suria Shopping Centre (below Twin Towers??). Is there a restaurant/bar that someone can name that I can give people as a meeting point? Thanks :)
