Floods in KL

HI

will be visiting KL in mid Mar 09. Have actually planned to stay at Hotel Vistana which is near to Jalan Ipoh. Now i am having second thoughts after reading news about the floods in that area just 2 days ago. would like to know if that area is prone to flash floods. also, should i avoid that area and stay elsewhere eg at Midvalley or even Putrajaya?

thks

Floods in KL

Flash floods are nothing new - people dump everything into the drain into the river (including trash, newborn babies, plastic bags, animal carcasses, sewage etc); DBKL not bothered to clean up; so the effect is not hard to guess.

Not sure if your hotel is affected; you could ask the or ask for a room on the top floor?? You could try staying somwhere really high up on the nice litle hill like the Hilton and Le Meridien :P even if the whole of downtown KL was flooded, you won%26#39;t be affected :P

Ok, I was pulling your leg: No, flashfloods don%26#39;t happen everyday in KL; and even if it DOES happen, it will most probably strike the SMART tunnels (another great construction joke of the century)%26amp; the lower areas like Masjid Jamek first; and even if it DOES happen; its really hard to say Where is going to happen because it depends on which drain is stuck and what people throw into the drain. Stick to the vistana, the water should be gone lar.

Since when has the site of the Hilton %26amp; Le Meridien been a ';hill'; ? More like a valley with Federal Hill on one side and the Seputeh hills on the other ....

Thats the reason why they call it Klang valley. The hotels and station are built on an elevation of about 170ft. The roads around the hotel leading to jalan Damansara, brickfields, Syed Putra are all around 100-115 ft. Of course the Seputeh Hills and bukit travers are slightly higher at 230ft; but then again, the hotel won%26#39;t want to end up like Bukit Antarabangsa which is about 630ft. Don%26#39;t you actually feel the road elevating slightly when you drive up Jalan Stesyen Sentral? Or you could download google earth for free; just in case you want to prove me wrong again.

Nor end up like Highland Towers

Thats why we also rely on members who ENJOY giving the most up to date information and not only those who ENJOY picking on other people%26#39;s mistake/trying to humiliate others/sulking around and are too selfish to give us their information. Ever heard of POSITIVE criticism?

I dont know where you got your ';elevations'; from, but any KL resident of a few years can tell you that the Sentral site which was a former railway godown was below the road level around it.

For god sake, it was a VALLEY !

Call yourselves experts? My dog and cat fight less than you two do!

Myoyster, no one is fighting (i.e. with fist and punch) :) We are merely ';contradicting';.

octopusmum, forgot to add; the flood is a thing of the past, its all cleaned up; DBKL blaming SMART tunnel and clogged drained; people living there blaming DBKL and Smart tunnel.
