Reduced Luggage Delivery Time at KLIA

I found this ';interesting'; article about KLIA:

Baggage out in 15 minutes at KLIA

SEPANG: Passengers arriving at KL International Airport can look forward to picking up their baggage 15 minutes after landing.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) was looking at reducing delivery time – now between 25 and 40 minutes – to between 15 and 30 minutes.

“This is indeed a challenge for MAHB and others concerned but we need to improve in this aspect to remain competitive,” he told a press conference after inspecting the baggage handling system at KLIA here yesterday.

He said the delivery time mainly referred to baggage transported from the satellite building to the main terminal at the airport via a 1.5km-long conveyor.

MAHB managing director Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid said the company was looking at improving the baggage system to be able to deliver the first bag in 15 minutes and the last in 30 minutes.

“Baggage from aircraft parked at the main contact pier has already met the 15-30 minutes delivery time standard,” he said, adding that the company was also working towards eliminating baggage pilferage at the airport by stepping up security.

On another matter, Ong said MAHB and the Road Transport Department would work together to curb touting activities at the airport.

“The anti-touting proposal by the department is primarily focused on the relocation of public transport service counters to the (restricted area at the) arrival hall to prevent touts from approaching passengers,” he said.

“MAHB is also in discussions with hoteliers, travel agents and transport providers to move their service counters to the arrival hall.”

Seriously, I had never had my luggage out within 25-40 minutes (well, maybe on rare occasions when the priority tags are on); it takes up to almost an hour sometimes; if I fly economy as a passenger. I am not sure if MAHB would be able to deliver their ';promise';; but it will be interesting to hear it from your point of view and your experience with the luggage/luggage theft/touts in KLIA.

What do you all think about KLIA?

Hi

NATO by MAHB

No Action Talk Only%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;long over due

1)touting at arrival hall%26gt;%26gt;unable to eliminate

2)pilferage%26gt;%26gt;unable to solve

3)insufficient taxi or long waiting time for taxi after purchase of prepaid ticket

First:All ';deadwood'; must be completely removed before any implementation could be effective .

Seecond: there must be followed up action on all avtivities

Third:What happened to the CCTV installed for surveillance%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;still in working condition????

Forth:There are still airlines boycotting this terminal::Still outstanding????

Fifth:Parking charges still very high??? cost of flight cheaper than o/n parking charges.

Need a powerful alarm to wake up MAHB..still dozing

1)touting at arrival hall%26gt;%26gt;unable to eliminate

When there is demand, there will be a market. I don%26#39;t think MAHB can only eliminate the touts because TOURISTS are still NOT getting it that they should buy a coupon! In fact; some even don%26#39;t do a bit of reading before they arrive in KL. Its the same thing with pirated stuff. First they want to ';fight'; piracy: but the fact that ALL the tourists are heading to Petaling Street and Locals to Pasar Malams to buy Pirated handbags, dvds, cds; they can%26#39;t make the choice of a) fight piracy and lose tourist income or b)allow privacy to increase tourist income.

2)pilferage%26gt;%26gt;unable to solve

They should install CCTV at all the areas including the workers areas and luggage belt areas.

3)insufficient taxi or long waiting time for taxi after purchase of prepaid ticket

Because Airport limo has got NO COMPETITION and monopolise everything! Without competition, they cannot improve their services. The only way MAHB can handle this is to bring in a few other companies and Airport Limo will, hopefully, brush up. But then again, competition must not affect tourists i.e. have the sales people swarming around the tourists shouting the prices.

And what they really should improve:

1) Build a proper train connection between AirAsia LCCT terminal and KLIA main terminal. Honestly, it can%26#39;t be so hard.

2) Give better and more competitive rates to airlines. Seriously everyone is heading to Changi and losing interest in Bangkok because of the political situation. KLIA should step in and bring in more business.

3) Get their business straight. Malaysia Airlines fly from KLIA, Firefly from Subang, Airasia from LCCT -causes confusion to many newcomers, esp when the airports and terminal are situated far apart from each other. Travelers want a short and quick transfer and not to run around looking for airports and catching cabs to and fro.

Hi

I arrived at KLIA on Tuesday lunchtime. My luggage was through before I cleared immigration. Waiting time for taxi coupon 5 mins.Waiting time for taxi less than 10. Must have been my lucky day. Mind you luggage arrived minus padlocks. But everything ok.

Always travel coach and never had to wait more than 15mins for suitcase to arrive, even if travelling with other folk its always there and we are at the taxi booth in 20mins, even if on a big crowded plane.

Guess they hold yours back lady.

I think it depends on our own luck on that particular day. I have travelled on both economy and business. My own experience, with or without priority tags, there were no difference. I have waited for more than 30 minutes on a few occasions; whilst the general waiting time which I have experienced was between 15 to 30 minutes.

On one occasion, they ‘misplaced’ one of my suitcases on my return trip from Rome. But they managed to retrieve it back, with their forwarding agent contacted me and have it returned to my home before lunch hour with everything intact (quite efficient wor).

For taxi, the longest wait I had in the queue was 20 minutes. Touts – I think is a matter of strict enforcement.
