Kuching - itinerary for 3, 5 days

I am going to be in Sarawak from April 3rd 9pm to April 7 4 pm.

I chose kuching because all travel books say that is a fantastic city.

I realised that it is easy to:

1.go to Bako national park,

2. visit longhouses iban (possibly doing Annah Rais homestay and adventure)

3. Close-by parks like Kubah National Park and Matang Wildlife Center, Tanjung Datu National Park or Gunung Gading National Park).

4. Other attractions in Kuching like the Waterfront, Sarawak Museum or Sarawak Cultural Center.

I also heard that Mulu National Park is the best park in Malaysia but I guess it´s too far from Kuching to go on a single day return.

As I am traveling to Asia and going to 4 different countries (Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia) I have no chance to extend my stay in Sarawak, so if I want to be in ';deep jungle'; and see a real longhouse iban:

a)what do you suggest me to do on such a short period of time?

b) Is it worth to stay all time in Kuching (cheaper) and go on day trips?

c) Where can I find tour agents websites?

d) Is it common to be bitten by snakes in the jungle?

e) Are the food stands open till late in Kuching?

I am from Portugal and this is the first time that I am going to a rainforest place, so a lot of experiences are completely new to me.

I guess these are enough questions...

Kuching - itinerary for 3, 5 days

a)what do you suggest me to do on such a short period of time?

Bako National Park for 2 days - 2 nights. Perhaps April 4 to 6. If you leave early on the 4th April, you can be in the park by lunch time. Plan your retrun trip for after lunch time and you get 2 half days plus a full day to explore.

b) Is it worth to stay all time in Kuching (cheaper) and go on day trips?

Not if you really wish to experience Bako. But, other places can be done as day trips.

c) Where can I find tour agents websites? You do not need a travel agent. If you really feel you want their help, arrange this when you get to Kuching.

d) Is it common to be bitten by snakes in the jungle?

No, it wopuld be very unsual - but you do need to keep your eyes open.

e) Are the food stands open till late in Kuching? Yes, in some areas. %26#39;Coffee Shops%26#39; close at different times - some after midnight.

Kuching - itinerary for 3, 5 days

Thank you so much for your precious help.

Besides Bako NAtional PArk, I was thinking of going somewhere on Batang Rejang River and see some longhouses (not necessarily staying overnight on one).

On one side, river journeys in the river seem to take many hours.

On the other side I checked Annah Rais Longhouse Adventure but have no idea where is that. Is there ant chance of taking an alternative tour to the longhouse areas without sleeping there (a day trio only?)

Thanx once again!!

look here for Longhouse info - you can do a day trip from Kuching.

www.tripadvisor.com/SearchForums…

You do not have enougth time to go up the River Rejang - it is 4 hours by boat from Kuching to Sibu (across open sea). Then another 4 hours up river to Kapit. There are a couple of stops along the way that might give you the oportunity. Bottom line is that it would take you 2 - possibly 3 days.

Thank you so much once again!!!

DO you know where Annah RAis is located? Just to know if that is somewhere near the river....

And.. is there any alternative longhouse experience other than Annah Rais?

Sorry for so many questions..

AR is about 45 - 60 mins (depending on traffic) drive from Kuching - it is the ONLY longhouse I know that charges and direct admission fee - TICKET. It is the most commercial longhouse and does not reflect the true culture.

Most Longhouse have a %26#39;fee%26#39; the goes to the community via the agent.
