From Singapore to Malaysian East Coast - HELP !

Hello there, can someone please help me. Is it possible to drive easily and safely from Singapore up to jetty to get to Redang Island, how long does it take on average. Perhaps stopping one night at Cherating !? I cannot seem to get anyone info on this, including from travel agents !!!! Also would one say that Redang is the best island for clear calm seas and white sands !? Travel end of April, early May.

Many many thanks - am stuck ! :o)

From Singapore to Malaysian East Coast - HELP !

Hi, I%26#39;d help a bit (half part). It is possible to drive from Singapore to Jetty point to Redang. Stoping in Cherating is a good idea. Ussually from jb to kuantan would take 6 hours (me and family thats it). Singapore - JB - Kota Tinggi - Mersing - Kuala Rompin - Pekan - Kuantan - Cherating. From cherating onwards I can%26#39;t help out. Hope others TA will help out. Please note that when you went past Mersing and near Kuala rompin there%26#39;s a junction to go to muadzam shah and could also go to kuantan. Don%26#39;t take this road just went straight ahead towards Pekan and then to Kuantan.

From Singapore to Malaysian East Coast - HELP !

Hello, thank you very much for your response. So do you say it takes about 6 hours to Cherating from Singapore ? Is Cherating nice to stop ? Anyone know the price of hiring a car and are the roads nice to drive on past the coastline etc ? Many thanks again.

Sarah

Please do not drive on Malaysian roads if you are not familiar. I am just trying to give you a warning that Malaysian roads (esp on the east coast) are very surprising!

Berjaya Air flies from Singapore to Redang direct. You save lots of time and effort. http://berjaya-air.com/flightschedule.htm

To say 6 hours from singapore to kuantan maybe not possible. The custom check point will take times. And from Kuantan to Cherating is about 30 minutes. Maybe add another hour. The road is not a highway so don%26#39;t expect a big road. If there%26#39;s lorry in front of you please be extra carefull to overtake it. Scenenary of the road:- a mix of jungle view, rubber tapper estate, small town, nice beaches just before Pekan. Some road is quite curvy while sometimes its quite straight. To rent a car from Singapore maybe you should ask the Singapore Forum. As I know the car got to 3/4 full of petrol before leaving to JB. And from which custom that you want to get out? Tuas or Woodlands?

Thank you both very much, we just thought the scenery might be nice and as I am not good on small planes, or any planes for that matter, guess I was trying not to fly :o) Maybe flying from KL to Kuala Terengganu on a bigger plane may be better for me, the 727 or something, not a long flight and then maybe just fly back to KL and drive from Singapore to KL which I believe is about 4-5 hours !?

Also, do you think Rednag is relly breathtaking, the white seas and the crystal seas ?

So appreciated !

Hi again. Don%26#39;t know about redang coz never been there. If you plan to drive from Singapore to Kl for the sake of secenenary then there%26#39;s really nothing much too see. Only trees and lots of trees. Since I%26#39;m a local I%26#39;d probably didn%26#39;t appreciate the view... :)

Hi SazRsa,

From my experience, JB-Mersing-Rompin-Pekan-Kuantan- Cherating road is one of the best in Malaysia ( not comparing with tolled roads).I enjoyed driving along this road with a combination of towns, kampungs(villages), and coastal roads. I would recommend that you spend one night in Cherating, to rest and enjoy the stay by the sea.

Driving from Cherating to Kuala Terengganu to take a ferry to Redang Island may take about 2 hrs(or slightly more). I would recommend that you take longer hours.....by stopping to enjoy yourself the beautiful beaches and villages along the road.

I have never been to Perhentian Island. But I have been to nearby islands...and they are really beautiful...white sands..blue seas.

By the way, April and May are two of a few months of the year when the sea is calm (no North East Monsoon). Enjoy yourself.

if you take the coastal road (not the inner main road parallel to the coastal road) from kuala terengganu to merang (the fishing village port to redang), you will see some of the best sea views to be found in peninsular malaysia, dotted with small kampungs. i think this section is one of the best drives in peninsular malaysia, but then maybe its because i like long distance driving...

Hi

We are also off to Malayia on holiday in August and based on what I%26#39;ve read on TA we are flying from KL to Kota Bahru on Air Asia as we are staying on the Perhentian Islands for 4 days . The flights were cheap - under SA R1000 for 2 adults.

There%26#39;s so much info on TA, just keep reading the forums and you%26#39;ll get really clued up.

Have a great holiday

I found my local travel agents not very knowledgable on the East Coast, as most tourists from here go to the west coast.
