Which accommodation to choose?

Hi,

I%26#39;m going to Kuching in March and looking for a place to stay: budget is RM 110 for two persons.

I%26#39;m considering the following options:

1) Singgahsana

2) Pinnacle

3) Beds Guesthouse http://www.bedsguesthouse.com/index.html

4) Tune Hotel

Hmmm... which one should i choose? Which one of the above is nearer to Kuching city centre? ie the Waterfront? What about cleanliness and safety?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! :)

Which accommodation to choose?

Hi Esther, I am not familiar with #2 and #3 but you might want to add Kuching Waterfront Lodge to the list. 3 friends from Singapore stayed there and were very pleased. Tune hotel will open in March and they all feature more or less the same room designs (Tune KL, KK, Kch). To get an idea, read and view my pictures of Tune KK (click on my username). The only thing that annoyed me was the muzak played loudly in the hallways which can be heard fron inside the rooms as well.

For RM110, I say skip Tune (although cheap, RM5 rooms in March for a total of about RM30 including AC) and stay at one of the better reviewed lodges as you can often get some good tips and advice from the staff there as opposed to the ';yes'; ';no'; ';erhm...'; answers most hotel reception staff will give you.

Hi mysarawak,

Thanks for your advice!

Btw, how is Singgahsana in comparison with waterfront lodge?

I do not know anyone personally who have stayed at Singgahsana so can%26#39;t comment much. They were featured once in our local paper and seems to get good reviews. Come to think of it, RM30 per room with AC at Tune is a good idea, no?

hi esther,

Tune Hotel got promo for RM5/- (room only) for places licluding Kuching.

In fact, i have just booked a double room which cost less than RM60/- for a 2 nites stay...quite good value for money.

i guess it should be alright given that it is opening on 2nd March 2009.

Depends on what ur needs. if you are out most of the time, then, this hotel is suitable for u...moreover, it is located at waterfront too...

in fact, i had earlier wanted to go for Kuching WaterFront Lodge but Tune Hotel Kuching promo is just at the right timing now...

Singgahsana is a good choice as it is right next to the waterfront and on the edge of the old city.

Tune hotel is in the newer part of the city - next to Hilton Hotel.

Bed Guesthouse is NOT in the old city as they say - it is about 15 - 20 minutes walk. The area around Beds has a good selection of Coffee shops. It is about 10 mins walk to the Hilton hotel. This area has a couple of interesting places to visit for a night time drink.

Pinnacles is central - next to Hilton hotel. See above

Thanks all for your helpful replies!

Heard that Singgahsana and Pinnacles are quite noisy because of the location, is it true? what about Tune and Waterfront Lodge?

TIA...

Esther, if you%26#39;re coming in March, it is best to book your Tune stay now as the promotion will end soon. I think you can just stay here and pay peanuts and get a comfortable room (but you may want to stuff a towel under the door to block out the hallway muzak!). You could then walk to the other lodges and survey them, ask the rates etc and find out how friendly they are etc. gather info for future trips! When exactly will you be in Kch? I have friends coming from SG in March as well and we%26#39;ll be in Tune hotel.

Hello...

I%26#39;m be in Kuching for 2 nights (20-22 Mar). The rate at Tune for those 2 nights is MYR 147.49 (room + 12 hrs credit air-cond). Is this cheap? How much are your friends paying for?

Oooh!! there%26#39;s be hallway muzak issit? is it allowed in Tune? the management won%26#39;t do anything? it%26#39;ll be very very noisy then, isn%26#39;t it? goshhh... i%26#39;m a very light sleeper!!

Is that for just one room? I think it is probably the cheapest rate you will find for a decent place to stay at the waterfront area. I just checked and the rate per room has gone up to RM90+ for that period. This is as expected because of the school holidays. If you had booked earlier, you may have been able to secure cheaper rates.

For this reason, I think you better move fast and book a stay with one of the lodges mentioned above before those too are snapped up. Remember, the school holidays are in the second half of March.

My friends are arriving before the holidays, in the first half. I booked and paid two rooms for them and I paid only RM60+ for everything (with 12 hours AC for each room and a towel rental for one).

Just like Air Asia, the rates change fast and you have to move fast as well if you want to stay there. Just a few days ago I checked, rooms for the 6th were still available for RM5, today, they are RM58.

About the muzak in the hallways, it certainly annoyed me but it wasn%26#39;t that loud to spoil my sleep. I%26#39;m hoping Tune Kch will not (I doubt it) have music in the hallways because Tune KK played some horrible selections!

Good luck!

correction: the RM90+ I wrote above should be RM50+. Which ever place you choose to stay in, hope you have a fun time in Kuching.
