Hi Gav, depends on which part of Kl you are walking in the nightime and what time you are walking??

If you are walking say round Bukit Bintang or Jalan P Ramlee or Jalan Ampang/Chinatown etc; the place is very lively till 1am in the mornings with people. Of you plan to walk down a dark alley along Chow Kit, Jalan Ipoh, or even Pudu backlanes (dunno why you want to walk there); then you will most pro bably see the usual gang of drug addicts and prostitutes. Try not to walk around alone in a dark alley with no lights?? Keep very litle cash in your pockets and don%26#39;t wear jewellery when you plan to walk down a dark alley??? I go clubbing at Zouk and the Asian heritage Row till 1 am sometimes and I have no problems walking out to catch a cab and to head back to the hotel.

Restaurants usually accept smart-casual diners, also depending on the restaurants. Polo/t-shirt and long slacks/jeans/bermudas below the knees are fine for guys. No flimsy flip-flops if you are dining in a hotel restaurant for dinner. If you are eating in a restaurant at a mall or somewhere casual; you can wear anything decent. Don%26#39;t worry, KL is a safe place for everyone; travel smart and have fun!

this is an old thread of mine that has lots of useful tips and hints

You are staying in one of the safest places in KL - plain clothes and uniformed policemen/women standing at all entrances and lobby and pool area, cameras at every corridor, bomb and boot checks on every cab/car that drives up the lobby; policemen and security guards all over KL sentral station... nothing to worry about mate; catch a cab downtown for drinks and have a great time!

p.s some cab driver absolutely hate going up the hotel because of the car/bomb checks; if they want extra money to go up; forget it and tell them to drop you off at the taxi stand and you can just take the lift up.

I must have missed something. Where is grafter999 staying in KL? Sounds like the JW Marriott

Hilton, how%26#39;s the weather? Anyone marching up and down Istana still?

thanks for your help everyone, im stopping at the hilton for 2 nights (sat/sun) then off to langkawi for a week
